Our lives are filled with tension, oscillating between joy and anxiety, hope and despair. The Psalmists observed this, and subsequently scribed their reflections and laments, giving voice to this juxtaposition of emotions; an experience that is shared by every successive generation as part of a greater narrative.

We are never without hope. We are never crushed, or abandoned, but at times it’s true that we are pressed and persecuted. Saying so is a simple and honest truth, but it can nonetheless be difficult to express. We need songs to give voice to something we aren’t able to articulate, be it joyous or painful, lament or liberty.

That is my hope; may these songs help you as they have me, to express the things my heart and soul might speak, but which words alone fail to convey.
